Time management is a skill. It allows us to accomplish the goals that we have. Without time management, there is never enough time to do it all. Time management is also linked to emotional intelligence (EI) as it impacts or reflects our self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation and goal pursuits, amongst other EI skills.

How Time Management Aligns with EI

  • When we have self-awareness, we can identify actions that support our values and goals. Only when we understand our emotional responses to activities, can we prioritise those tasks to achieve overall well-being and success.
  • When we can self-regulate, we can avoid procrastination; and we can put off immediate gratification for the benefit of long-term goals.
  • When we are motivated, we stick at our goals for longer because we are committed to seeing outcomes. Without time management, we cannot organise ourselves and our activities in order to stay motivated.

So, having good time management skills is both a reflection of, and a subset of emotional intelligence skills.

What about Personal Time?

Managing personal time is about proritising your values. How important is spending time with your partner compared to launching your new product range? How important is taking a few days to visit your family compared to booking more clients? Once you understand your values, you can priorities accordingly. Once you know what your values and priorities are, you can perform your time management more effectively.

Where Does Hypnotherapy and NLP fit in?

If there’s an emotional pattern or a block that is preventing you from managing you time well, then hypnotherapy and NLP can help. Say you grew up in a home where your parents were always rushing. Maybe both were working to make ends meet. At the end of the day there was barely enough time for raising kids. All you got to see was a very stressed mum and dad who had no personal time for themselves, or for you. This then has been your ‘normal’. This is what you’ve learnt.

You need to break this pattern and unlearn this particular values structure. That’s where hypnotherapy and NLP can help. There are many techniques I use to break patterns, as well a hypnosis and time line regressions to ‘rewrite’ that state of normal.

Maybe you had six months of pressure, working overtime and doing little else, trying to launch a business or meet the demands of your boss. Now things have settled, but that pressure feeling is still on you and you have trouble getting back to the work life balance you used to have. This is another example where hypnosis and NLP could help. It can update your subconscious mind by letting it know that that pressure is now in the past.

Perhaps you have a stumbling block regarding your confidence or a fear of failure? This can also create procrastination behaviours, in order to make sure that you don’t get it all done. It then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as well as a safety net of keeping you ‘unfinished’ incase the end result is one of failure.

So, if you have the sense that life gets away from you, yet you know, logically, that your task list is reasonable and achievable, it might be time to look at releasing all of that backlog of stress and patterning, so that you can live the life you want to live. If that’s you, we can help. Horizons Clinical Hypnotherapy Sunshine Coast.
